Directed by Sidney J. Furie from a screenplay by J. Stephen Maunder and John Flock, The Veteran was originally released in 2006 and is a follow-up to Furie’s 2001 film Under Heavy Fire, a.k.a. Going Back. This one has the following synopsis: Thirty years on from the Vietnam War, a government official is trying to track down soldiers who went missing in action, in the hope that it may lead her to her father. Meanwhile, a war veteran is forced to relive painful memories of how he was left for dead by his own platoon, and the heinous crimes he once committed while in the line of duty. Gritty and unflinching, The Veteran contains some breathtaking action sequences that vividly depict the horrors of war.
Ally Sheedy, Bobby Hosea, Michael Ironside, Colin Glazer, Sean Baek, Jim Codrington, and Donald Burda star. Pablo Espinosa, Austin Farwell, Joseph Griffin, Kenny Johnson, Daniel Kash, Martin Kove, Jim Morse, Casper Van Dien, and Jaimz Woolvett also appear in footage from Under Heavy Fire / Going Back.
Furie has racked up a long list of directing credits, going back to the 1950s. Next up for the director, who turns 90 next month, is a docudrama called Finding Hannah.
