The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) is an American Catholic media network that broadcasts and distributes television and radio programs, publishes print publications, and so on. It was founded in the United States by mother Maria Angelica of the Annunciation, PCPA (real name Rita Antoinette Rizzo) in 1980. television broadcasting began on August 15, 1981, from the garage of Our Lady of Angels Monastery in Irondale, Alabama. (The monastery was also founded by Mother Angelica in 1962) EWTN television is now available in more than 150 million homes in 140 countries around the world.
