PRO TV was launched on December 1, 1995, and is owned by the company PRO TV SRL, which is part of the Central European Media Enterprises group. As of September 2021, PRO TV was the most-watched television channel in Romania, holding a market share of 18.11%. The first broadcast began on December 1, 1995, at 7:00 PM, with the launch presented by Andreea Esca during the PRO TV News. Since September 3, 1999, the company has also been broadcasting its signal for the Republic of Moldova under the brand PRO TV Chișinău. PRO TV Chișinău airs a series of local news and shows, in addition to the programs from Pro TV Bucharest (following its own schedule, different from the Romanian one), along with its own advertising slots throughout the day.
On December 1, 2006, PRO TV began experimental transmissions of movies, matches, and other shows in HD format, creating a new channel called PRO TV HD. On August 29, 2014, PRO TV launched its streaming service, PRO TV Plus, dedicated to original series. Since August 28, 2017, the channel has radically changed its logo, abandoning the three lines that were part of the previous logos since the channel's launch, and the word "TV" was moved to the upper right next to "PRO." Additionally, since 2014, the commercial and promo idents have become more distinctive from other channels, focusing on the celebrities appearing in the channel's shows. During the summer, idents feature activities associated with the season, while winter idents showcase things and activities related to winter holidays and the season. In the past, these idents featured two animated characters, two white humanoids considered the channel's mascots.
