Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) is a Venezuelan open television channel. Officially launched on August 1, 1964 as a privately owned channel with other interests, it was nationalized on April 8, 1976. VTV has produced several telenovelas, including titles such as Ifigenia, Doña Perfecta and La Dueña from 1984, which was perhaps its most successful and popular production. Most of its programming is recorded live, with pro-government newscasts that censor acts perpetrated by the opposition and protests against the regime, according to various media reports.
